Dead Friendship
I have lost you as a friend,
Our friendship did not survive to the end.
It was over from the start,
Doomed from the beginning.
We did not get a home run,
A basket or a goal,
No point for us.
All we managed to do,
Was get flushed down the toilet,
Sucked down the drain,
And thrown away.
You changed first,
Resulting in me changing as well.
Things became different,
We drifted apart.
Promises got broken,
Shattered,
Left to lie scattered on the floor.
Unable to cross the finish line,
Our friendship dies,
Suffocated by neglect.
A vow to keep us breathing,
Did not last.
We drowned in a sea of poison,
Choking, gasping for air,
Death filled our lungs.
Having grown so far apart from one another,
A funeral was not held,
In memory of our friendship.
You wouldn’t have shown up anyways,
But I would have,
Just to pay some last respects,
To what could’ve been,
A great friendship.
Besides, all of our memories faded,
Blew away with the wind.
And now,
Here we are,
With nothing in common,
Nothing to hold us together.
We’re strangers now,
Living in another time,
In a different world.
Passing on the street,
We have no recollection,
Of who we used to be,
Or what we used to share.
But now,
We do share something,
We share a dead friendship.
