The Gallows

I have seen many a man up here with me. Not because of their own good choosing. No, they never did have a choice. They were sentenced here. Their fate is now with me. I will decide what happens and when. I did not choose to do what I have to. It was my calling, this is what I was sent here to do. Many of the lives that I have stolen were never meant to be. Some of them have killed, some have abused, some have raped, or misused. However, there are some who have never gone wrong. They were simply wrongly accused. Now there is no turning back.

For instance, take this man sitting over in that corner. That’s him with his head sunk low. He never did want to go wrong. He simply wanted the best for his family. Sometimes when you want the best a man will do silly things. Things he never would have normally done. I am sure he has regrets for his past, don’t we all. He no longer has a choice. Tomorrow he will hang with me. It is not something I enjoy doing. Just something I have to.
