She opened up the door
Took her first real step inside
The house she’d done her best
To keep from it, to hide
The house itself brought memories
Painful, strong and true
Of a man that she once loved
And a hurt that she still knew

Her life had never been easy
His love had never been fair
Yet they accepted each hassle
Each little wear and tear
When you’re young it doesn’t matter
Love will always get you through
But as life wears on and struggles go strong
That love seems to wear off too

He didn’t mean to do it
She didn’t mean to care
They both knew it was coming
And the girl just showed up there
She was young, pretty, and deep in love
With a man she shouldn’t have kissed
But in his woman’s eyes was a hurt
That even a boy couldn’t have missed

She left him soon after
Said she’d never come back
But when the call came in that he was dead
She knew she’d return to the track
As she stood there in the shadows
Of a love now dead and gone
Regrets and pain came flooding in
As she wondered what went so wrong

Although the pain still lingered
With the numbness of lost love
A smile slowly found her lips
And a tear fell on laced glove
As she wiped away her yesteryear
In the tears she’d shed alone
For a love and loss forgotten
And a broken forgotten home

Her first steps in that house that day
Were destined to be her last
As she retraced her steps back to her car
Rejoining her life, and leaving her past
